What a Journey

The journey really begins in 1991 when I started going to other churches around Provo--other than my single student ward at BYU.  I went to a Baptist church, Assembly of God, Congregational, and Evangelical Free church.  The EV Free church was intriguing.  The assistant pastor began "tutoring" me at--of all places--the Cougar Eats in the Wilk at BYU.  Unfortunately, I knew enough of the scriptures to shoot all his "proofs" down.  Round one failed.  I made my "peace" with the LDS faith.  At that point, I even went through the temple.

Unfortunately, my disconnect with the faith continued to haunt me.  The New Testament in particular seemed to loom up again and again to mock me with the idea of salvation unequivocably and wholly on the merits of grace.  No handshakes or memorized incantations required.  Hmm.

Fast forward to 2009.  I decided to go to a Lutheran church.  I guess because my family background on one side was Scandanavian Lutheran?  And I'm a reader and have always been extremely impressed with Martin Luther.  But wow, I never expected to find "Mormon culture" esconced in correct theology.  Jokes about Jell-O and potlucks!  (Except Lutherans show up to events on time in general--no Mormon Standard Time.)  I was home.  Jesus and the Holy Ghost brought me home.

Well, this blog won't be all about religion.  Don't worry.  I teach school.  I'm a Republican.  I'm pretty sure further posts may touch upon this subjects in the future.  Why not?
